The MKT was chartered in 1868, as the southern division of the Union Pacific, to connect Kansas with Texas and the Gulf of Mexico. Eventually, it reached from Kansas to Denison, TX, its headquarters, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Houston, Galveston and San Antonio. Through trackage rights agreements, it reached St. Ouis and Omaha, NE. In 1980, it acquired trackage rights of bankrupt Rock Island in Oklahoma, which they operated as the Oklahoma-Kansas-Texas. Jim Terrell filmed many of the Kat's lines in TX.
